In the Talk Doesn't Everyone Deserve A Chance At A Good Life", Jim Yong Kim talks about America as the pillar of equality, an american value that isn't always given right away. People like Yong Kim had to work hard to get where he was at, an immigrant himself coming to america to escape the hardships of his native land. His talk wasn't the most entertaining but in a way moving at times and gave me a different perspective on the American Dream. His findings on how many people in different areas around the globe aren't given equal opportunities in life becuase either they were born into a family not well off or it is tied into their nationality and religious beliefs. His Talk could have been a little more light and more intriguing and fun to watch. At some points because of his accent i couldn't understand him, but there were subtitles for me to read.
Yong Kim used ethos by addressing his backstory as an immigrant and how that effected his future in America. The way he explained it seemed relatible to another story I read about a Syrian girl; a refugee finding a place of comfort from war and abandonment. her story literally brought tears in my eyes because she had lost her parents during the ISIS crisis and the only family she had left was her aunt and she couldn't speak English which made it harder to get anywhere in America. Yong Kim showed Pathos with the assertion of wanting the so called equal opportunity in America and rights to spread all over. That exact statement pertains to the Global Dream. Logos appeared with the astounding numbers of immigrants granted and not granted access to america in the last five years and the different ethnicity.
Overall, This Ted Talk brought up the American values of equality among the people not only in America but the world, as well as work and progress in the sense that change in equal representation of the rich and the poor is a work in progress. The Talk give sthe perspective regarding the Global Dream and what society needs to move forward as one people. His background gave me an interesting thought on how today's society takes many things we have now for granted that citizen poor in other countries aren't lucky enough to possess. I liked the message of the Talk and would like for it to be shared acroos the U.S. and beyond.
