The Talk "For More Tolerance we need More...Tourism?", Aziz Abu Sarah talks about the importance of breaking down these "walls" that seperate different groups of people just because they have different religious beliefs of have different perspectives on controversial subjects. He has created a way to do so with the idea of tourism. With Tourism, it's a great and easy way of connecting with people from all walks of life, and build friendships. He founded a touring company that travel to different parts of the world, mostly to places like Israel, Palestine, and Libya. Throughout the talk he convinced the audience that through tourism, people can accept and embrace each others views on peoples ways of living be able to meet new people and make friends.
Ethos is shown when he discusses his tourist company that he co-founded called Mejdi Tours. There people of all walk of life toured around different religious Muslim sites with similar and different views on how they perceived it. More importantly people were able to connect with one another and build friendly relationships. The Ethos is in the experience he has with the tourist company and there his credibility comes through. Pathos is established when he talks about a Jewish dinner that was happening during one of the tours. there people were moving to the music, belly dancing. It's pathos because it shows that people were feeling joy through tourism and the activities there. Logos is given when he testifies about his older brother going to prison for throwing stones, getting beaten for not admitting to the stone throwing, and receiving internal bleeding after that which led to his death once he got out of prison. It is Logos because this information he announced was true and made an impact in his life which eventually convinced the audience through the traumatizing event that tourism could break down those walls that separated those people.
Aziz Abu Sarah was quite interesting in the way he delivered his message and idea of tourism making an impact on people of different values coming together. Telling his background was a way of swaying the audience in a powerful way because it changed his perspective on how he saw the world. He brought an odd approach of bringing people of different religious beliefs and different views together connecting, creating relationships that in Sarah's experience can continue for a long time after. He convinced me to even try Tourism or being a tourist in order to meet new people and make new friends. I also want too see different people that I've never met before in places I've never been before. It seems that through Tourism not only does it get people to interact and learn about others, but makes you look at the world as a whole with a different point of view. Who knows, maybe through Tourism, people can see other people and the world through a different lens. It's possible in some extent that the Global Dream itself can be achieved through building friendships and ending tensions that separated others around the world. After watching this talk, I am convinced that Tourism can change the way we see the world and maybe bring the world closer together.
